Happy Holidays - I am on my way to Colorado Friday afternoon. Hope everyone has a wonderful time with family and friends. Thanks for hanging in there for the last week of school. The students did awesome considering they have had the Christmas spirit for the last couple of weeks. See you in the new year!!

December 13 - 17





Last week before Christmas Holidays! I am leaving for Colorado to see my children and grandchildren. Visiting family is the best!!
*Skating - Tuesday, December 14 from 8:45 - 10:00 a.m. Meet us at the ice arena to help us lace skates and hopefully skate with us. Remember helmets and warm clothes.
*Spelling - No test until Friday, January 7. We will practice our spelling words next week and the same words the 1st week back. Class did awesome on Spelling Test!
*Reading - We will be reading the story "Ted" next week and the 1st week back after the holiday. New yellow reading sheet for "Ted" in ziplock bag.
*Students are doing amazingly well with zipping up coats. Thanks for practicing!
*Pizza Day - Thursday, December 16 - wear red/white. Students love staying and eating together.
*Lates - Mr. Hogg announced over the intercom last Thursday that he is going to have draws for prizes for students who arrive on time. He is concerned about the number of students that are late everyday. He says that there are at least 40 students late every day. He is asking for our help as a class to help reduce the number of lates. Maybe this could be our New Year's Resolution!
*Class Party - Friday, December 17. Please have food to school by 8:30 a.m.

December 6 - 10


Christmas is almost here!! I am counting the days until I'm on my way to Colorado to see my children and grandchildren!
**Character Education - Optimism - WOW!! What a magnificent response to the Grade 2's "Warm Hearts Campaign". We have had alot of donations of coats, hats, scarves, mittens, and boots for students and families who are in need. Also remember the penny and small change drive for those in need.

*Weather - Excellent job of dressing for the weather! Many thanks!! Also, we are getting better at zipping our coats, etc. The first few weeks of winter were pretty hectic! It is fun to watch the students helping each other! What an awesome class.
*Giving Tree - Non-perishable items for needy families in Raymond.
*Home Reading - Thanks for returning the yellow sheet every day in ziplock bags. It is important for me to know that your child is reading the story for the week every night. Story this week is "Meg". Thanks for your help!
*Spelling - Fantastic!! I know you have to be so proud of your child's results on their spelling test and sentence dictation! Congratulations everyone!
*Pizza Day - Thursday, December 16 - Wear red and white! Money handed in by Thursday, December 9.
*Christmas Holidays - December 18 - Jan. 3!
*Lates - Try to have your child to school by 8:20 a.m. so that they have time to be ready for school to start. They love visiting with classmates and me before school starts.

November 29 - Deccember 3






December is almost here! We have 15 school days until Christmas Holidays!!
*Thanks so much for responding so quickly for our call for help on Thursday! It was a shock to come to school to find out we didn't have any heat. One of the furnaces in a classroom exploded and then two classroom had water leakage on the floor. We were grateful that the superintendant allowed us to send the students home. Within an hour, we had all the students taken care of. If you are ever in doubt as to whether school has been called off because of weather, please go onto the school website @ www.raymondelementary.ca - By doing this, you will know without having to call the school. Also, if you have a change in contacts, please let me know.
*Raymond's 12th Annual Old Fashioned Christmas - Friday December 3. Santa arrives @ 6:30 p.m. Tree lighting and carolling in front of the Museum at 6:00 p.m.

*Character Education - Optimism - The Grade 2's feel that you never lose your eyesight by looking on the bright side of things. So, they want to initiate the "Warm Hearts Campaign". By giving and helping others we will help to teach optimism for all of the good things in our life. The Grade 2's want to start a penny drive and donations which will provide warm coats, snow pants, hats, mitts, boots, scarves, etc. for those in our school who need them. We will be accepting clean, gently used donations of warm, winter clothing in our big gift box in the gathering area at school. We will also be collecting pennies or spare change towards this goal. Donations may be sent immediately and will be accepted until Christmas Break.

Home Reading - I am sending a reading sheet home for you to sign every night and return in your child's ziplock bag. This is for the story of the week. This week's story is "Ed". Keep recording on the red sheet in your child's agenda. Put the total time of all your child's reading on the red sheet.
*Spelling - Another great week! Students did well with the 3 review words!
*We are getting a little faster at getting ready for recess. If possible, let your child get ready on their own at home. They are learning that they can get ready by themselves! Thanks for dressing your child appropriately for the weather.
Mom & Dad letters - Thanks for returning them along with your letter to your child.

November will soon be over! December will be a busy month! Please remember to keep reading every night for 15 minutes! That is an extra gift to your child for Christmas.
*Thanks so much for attending your child's Student-Led Conference. It was an awesome experience for your child. They liked being the teacher!
Mom and Dad Letters - Please return Mom and Dad letters and your letters as soon as possible. Thanks!
*Please remind your child how important is that they go home first before going to a friend's house.
*Spelling - We are now reviewing 3 words every week! Super job on the spelling test and sentence dictation.
*Reading - Thanks for reading. Remember to read vocabulary words, story, sight words, spelling words, etc.
*Character Education - Empathy. December is Optimism.
*Dec. 3 - Raymond Old Fashioned Christmas - 6:00 p.m.
*Weather - Thanks for dressing your child for the cold weather. Warm mitts, scarf, hat, and boots sure do make a difference. Keep practicing zipper skills.
*Giving Tree - Giving Tree in Library - Non-perishable food items for needy families in Raymond.
*Pizza Day - We love Pizza Day! December Pizza Day is Thurs., Dec. 16.
*Lunches - Students throw away a lot of food and are afraid to bring it home because they think they will be in trouble. Check with your child and make sure they like what you are sending. Otherwise, it is in the garbage.
*Scholastic Book Order - Let me know if your order is for Christmas.
Chocolates - Please return chocolates and money by Fri., Nov. 26.
*Lost & Found - Please check the tables in the hallway.

November 15 - 19

Hope everybody liked the extra days this weekend.
The students enjoyed singing in the Remembrance Day Program. I just wished they had been seated differently so that everyone could be seen. Our class was lucky because we were at the front.
*Spelling - Test will be on Friday, November 19. Thanks for all of your help with practicing the words and sentence for the test every week.
*Student-Led Conference - Wednesday, November 17. Your child will have a folder to share with you. They are excited about this and want you to celebrate all the great things that they have accomplished. Remember to be positive in your comments. You will leave everything in the folder and on Thursday I'll send the sheets that can go home. The rest will be left at school for their Grade 1 book that you will receive at the end of the year.
Your child will also show you their slide show on the computer. They also want to play a math game with you! This is an awesome experience.
*Reading - Remember how important reading for 15 minutes every night is to your child becoming a fluent reader. I appreciate your efforts to try and be consistent every week.
*Chocolate Fund Raiser - Thanks to those who are helping our school raise money. All money and bars need to be back in by Friday, November 26.
*Weather - Students sure enjoy being outside better when they have mittens, hat, and scarf to keep them warm.
*Shoe laces and zipper skills are improving. Thanks for your help.
*Absent & Late - Thanks for writing messages in the agenda to let me know before hand or calling when your child is sick. Remember to try and have your child 5 - 10 minutes early in the morning so that they have a chance to settle in before school starts. They really enjoy that time visiting with me, with other students, etc.

November 8 - 12, 2010

The week after Halloween is very interesting! The students were really tired on Monday and their system was in overload with sugar! We made it through the week though. I'm glad Halloween doesn't come once a week.
*Spelling - Amazing! Wow! Awesome! I am so impressed with how well everyone is doing! I love it!
*Empathy - We all traced our foot and wrote a statement about empathy on it. Come look at all the footprints around the school.
*Lost and Found - If you are missing a coat or hoodie, come take a look at our Lost and Found in the Grade 5 & 6 hallway.
*Reading - Thanks for trying to read consistently for 15 minutes every night.
*Student-Led Conference - Wednesday, November 17. Please return slip to let me know if your scheduled time works for you. This is going to be a fun evening with your child.
*Weather - Weather will be changing this week. Be ready with mitts, hat, scarf etc. Wear boots when it snows!
*Remember to practice phone number, box number, and how to print last name.
*Remembrance Day Program - Wednesday, November 10 @ 10:45 a.m. Wear red!
We are singing When Johnny Comes Marching Home and The Poppy Song.
*Clocks - Remember to set your clocks back 1 hour on Saturday night!!

November 1 - 5







Another new month. Watch out! Christmas will be here before you know it!!
*Halloween Party - Special thanks to our room mom, Leslie Heggie, for helping to make the pizzas. Also thanks to Cathy Runquist, Maria Wert, Darla Harker and Leslie Heggie for cooking the pizzas. What would we do without moms!!
*The Halloween pictures looked adorable. Sorry I wasn't able to be at school to celebrate Halloween with the kids. I hope they had a fun time.
*Remembrance Day Program - Wednesday, November 10 @10:00 a.m. - Grade 1's are singing 2 songs.
*Character Education for November - Empathy.
*School T-Shirt orders - Due November 3.
*Spelling - I didn't get to look at the Spelling Test on Thursday. I'm sure every one did awesome. Remember, your child won't always get every word right all the time, but they are trying to do their best all the time.
*Reading - I am so excited about the progress that we have made in our class. Keep up the good work!
*Scholastic Book Order for November - I will send an order on November 5, 10, 19, 26. If you want to order for Christmas, I can let you know when the order arrives.
*Weather - We have been so lucky so far with good weather. One day when it was so cold, I was impressed with the hats, mitts, and even boots that your child wore. Thanks so much for helping your child dress appropriately for the weather.
*Our class is getting better at doing up their zipper on their coat. Shoe laces still need work. Practice, practice, practice!
*Parent-Teacher Interviews - November 15 Report Cards go home. Parent-Teacher Interviews are on Wednesday, November 17. I am looking forward to meeting with every one.
*Library - I know some of the library books that your child brings home are too hard for them to read. It is hard to find library books at a beginning level for Grade 1 students. That is why it is important to practice reading the stories that we are reading at school. They have words that Grade 1 students can sound out, along with the sight words that we are learning to read also.
*Remember to complete worksheets and send them back when your child returns after they have been absent.
We are ready for another great month! "Enjoy Your Crew"!!

October 25 - 29








Last week of October. They say it is a sign of old age when the days, weeks, months, and years go by so quickly! Wow!
I am just so impressed with all the good things that are happening in our class. Every one is working so well and really trying to do their best! I love it!

*My father-in-law passed away and so I probably won't be to school on Friday for the Halloween Party. I'll have the students goodie bags at school for them. Halloween night, I won't be home, as we will all be together as a family.

*Reading - Thanks for really understanding the importance of reading every night consistently. It sure pays off. I'm very impressed with your dedication to your child's success in Grade 1!
*Spelling - Amazing! Our class is doing awesome. I hope you are as impressed as I am, even if your child misspells a few words. The words are so close to being right. Remember to always celebrate the good things your child does. Spelling Test Thursday, October 28!
*Halloween Party - It is coming fast. The kids are excited about wearing their costumes and eating goodies. Parade will start between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m.
Please have food to school by 8:30 a.m. because we will be making our pizzas.
*Scholastic Book Order for November - I will send an order on November 5, 10, 19, and 26.
*Character Education for November is Empathy. Our class is a great example of Empathy. I love the way the students look out for each other and really show that they care for one another.
*Library - We are checking out 2 books now. Remember students can keep the books for 1 week and then they need to be returned. Library classes every Wednesday and Friday.
*Plastic Grocery Bags - Thanks for sending!
*Pizza Day - Thanks for allowing your child to stay and eat! They love it. Thanks for remembering to wear red and white! The class looks so good in red.
Shoe laces and zipper - Thanks for practicing!
Weather - Fantastic weather this past week. Temperature dropping and I heard maybe a little bit of snow next week. I'm not ready for that yet!

Your kids are so creative! I love the way they enjoy doing art and aren't afraid to use their own ideas. Look at our cool bulletin board for our pictures and awesome printing!
