November 29 - Deccember 3
December is almost here! We have 15 school days until Christmas Holidays!!
*Thanks so much for responding so quickly for our call for help on Thursday! It was a shock to come to school to find out we didn't have any heat. One of the furnaces in a classroom exploded and then two classroom had water leakage on the floor. We were grateful that the superintendant allowed us to send the students home. Within an hour, we had all the students taken care of. If you are ever in doubt as to whether school has been called off because of weather, please go onto the school website @ www.raymondelementary.ca - By doing this, you will know without having to call the school. Also, if you have a change in contacts, please let me know.

*Character Education - Optimism - The Grade 2's feel that you never lose your eyesight by looking on the bright side of things. So, they want to initiate the "Warm Hearts Campaign". By giving and helping others we will help to teach optimism for all of the good things in our life. The Grade 2's want to start a penny drive and donations which will provide warm coats, snow pants, hats, mitts, boots, scarves, etc. for those in our school who need them. We will be accepting clean, gently used donations of warm, winter clothing in our big gift box in the gathering area at school. We will also be collecting pennies or spare change towards this goal. Donations may be sent immediately and will be accepted until Christmas Break.

Home Reading - I am sending a reading sheet home for you to sign every night and return in your child's ziplock bag. This is for the story of the week. This week's story is "Ed". Keep recording on the red sheet in your child's agenda. Put the total time of all your child's reading on the red sheet.
*Spelling - Another great week! Students did well with the 3 review words!
*We are getting a little faster at getting ready for recess. If possible, let your child get ready on their own at home. They are learning that they can get ready by themselves! Thanks for dressing your child appropriately for the weather.

November 15 - 19
Hope everybody liked the extra days this weekend.
The students enjoyed singing in the Remembrance Day Program. I just wished they had been seated differently so that everyone could be seen. Our class was lucky because we were at the front.
*Spelling - Test will be on Friday, November 19. Thanks for all of your help with practicing the words and sentence for the test every week.
*Student-Led Conference - Wednesday, November 17. Your child will have a folder to share with you. They are excited about this and want you to celebrate all the great things that they have accomplished. Remember to be positive in your comments. You will leave everything in the folder and on Thursday I'll send the sheets that can go home. The rest will be left at school for their Grade 1 book that you will receive at the end of the year.
Your child will also show you their slide show on the computer. They also want to play a math game with you! This is an awesome experience.
*Reading - Remember how important reading for 15 minutes every night is to your child becoming a fluent reader. I appreciate your efforts to try and be consistent every week.
*Chocolate Fund Raiser - Thanks to those who are helping our school raise money. All money and bars need to be back in by Friday, November 26.
*Weather - Students sure enjoy being outside better when they have mittens, hat, and scarf to keep them warm.
*Shoe laces and zipper skills are improving. Thanks for your help.
*Absent & Late - Thanks for writing messages in the agenda to let me know before hand or calling when your child is sick. Remember to try and have your child 5 - 10 minutes early in the morning so that they have a chance to settle in before school starts. They really enjoy that time visiting with me, with other students, etc.
Check Lost & Found!
Halfway through the month. 5 weeks of school left before the Christmas Holidays begin. Amazing!
