Jan. 31 - Feb. 4
Hope everyone enjoyed their 4 day weekend! It is hard to go back into the deep freeze again after such a nice warm week.
P.D. Day was awesome. I learned alot that I can apply to me and my class and also to my life.
*Spelling Test - Friday, February 4. We should do really well because of the extra time we have had to practice. Thanks for practicing at home.
*Reading - Thanks for reading our weekly story every night and signing yellow sheet.
Remember to practice reading the story that has been typed on the sheet without the pictures and the vocabulary.
*Library - We check out books every Wednesday and Friday. Please try to return library books on time. Last week, our class had all books returned on time! Fantastic! Mrs. Peterson really praised them. Students loved it!
*Weather - Dress for the weather! If it is below 0 degrees, maybe wear a hoodie under your coat. Students are doing a super job of zipping up their coats now. It sure makes a difference.
*Snacks - Thanks for sending a snack in the morning. Your child really appreciates it and it also helps them make it to lunch time.
*Assembly - Bob King is coming on Tuesday, February 15 to entertain us. He will be selling some of his C.D.'s for $10.00.
Printing - We are concentrating on being neat and forming letters properly. Students love it when they don't have to make any corrections on their paper.
*Lates - We are getting better at being on time. Thanks for your help! Students really like getting to school early so they can visit, read books, play, and talk to me.
*Character Education for February - Courage
*Valentine Cards - Students can start passing them out on Wednesday, February 9.

We will miss her! Helen Gibb is working with me now until a decision has been made as to who will replace Mrs. Vidal. We are enjoying Mrs. Gibb in our class. She fits in really well.
Remember if you have any concerns or suggestions, please feel free to call me or write a note in your child's agenda.
*We are now really half way through Grade 1. I am so pleased with the progress our class has achieved, and I anticipate even greater improvements these next five months.
February is going to be a great month and also a short one. Have a great week and "Enjoy Your Crew!"

We are halfway through the month already!
We worked really hard on neat printing last week.
*Pyjama Day - Thursday, January 20. Wear pyjamas and bring stuffy or blanket. It is going to be a fun day.
*Pizza Day - Thursday, January 20. Wear red and white. Thanks for allowing your child to stay for Pizza Day. It is great to have everyone stay and eat together!
*Reading - We have finished our first set of stories. Vocabulary and spelling words will be getting more challenging. Thanks for reading the weekly story and vocabulary words every night. Our story this week is Mac Gets Well. Sign yellow sheet in zip lock bag. Thanks!
*Spelling - Our class is amazing! Every week I am amazed at how well our class does.
*V.I.P. - Students love sharing with the class. Thanks for remembering your child's day.
*Weather- Awesome job of dressing for the weather. Mr. Hogg has a new policy for cold weather. If it is -20 degrees Celsius, then students stay in for recess and lunch. If parents send a letter asking for their child to stay in, then they go to the gathering area to read or do homework and the inside teacher will supervise them there. Then Mr. Hogg will call the parent to find out why the child has to stay in on a cold day.
*Hot Chocolate - Mrs. Fowler's Gr. 2 class is raising money to adopt a humpback whale. They will be selling hot chocolate or hot apple cider for $0.50
*Robert Munsch - What a neat experience to listen to his story telling.
*Bob King - He is coming to sing some of his songs that he has written. He is very entertaining, plus he will be selling his C.D.'s. Mrs. Ross, the music teacher, has been singing some of his songs in music.
*Character Education - Kindness - This is such an important concept to learn and to apply to those around you.

WOW! We made it!
Thanks for helping your child make it through the week.
*Tuesday, January 11, all Grade 1 teachers in the Westwind School Division have an all day math meeting in Magrath. Mrs. Luanne Wolsey will be subbing for me!
*Reading - Story for the week is "The Wig". Thanks for signing and returning the yellow sheet every day in the ziplock bag. I know the stories are easy for some of the students in the classroom but this is our required reading program. Spelling words, vocabulary, rhyming words, story writing, writing sentences, etc. are taken from the weekly stories. Grade 1 is about repetition, repetition, repetition! We are trying to build a solid foundation with learning sight words, sounds, putting sounds together to make words, and being able to read fluently. Read books from the public library, school library, and books from home. An important thing to check for when your child is reading, is, does your child understand and remember what he/she is reading; especially if the book is more difficult. Some students can read words but there is little comprehension. Thanks for trying to read for 15 minutes every night.
*Character Education - Kindness. As a family, try to thank each other for small acts of kindness.
*Spelling - Awesome job!
*Weather - We are in for some cold weather and snow. Please dress appropriately. Warm mittens, hat, scarf, sweatshirt under coat, boots, all help!
*Pizza - Pizza orders are due Thursday, January 13. Our class loves pizza day!
*Please return worksheets when your child is absent!
*Flu season - Get lots of sleep, stay warm, eat healthy! Hopefully our class will stay healthy.
Hope everyone had a restful weekend! Here we go for another week. "Enjoy your Crew!"

Jan. 4 - Jan. 7
Welcome back! Good luck with getting your child up this week!
I had an awesome time in Colorado with my grandchildren and kids. I knew the holidays would go fast. Now that I'm home, I am ready to dive into the new year. Hope you are too!
*New Year's Resolution - Everyone in the class has their New Year's Resolution on the bulletin board in the hallway. Check them out!
*Reading - Remember we are still reading "Ted" this week. Read every night and continue signing the yellow sheet. Thanks so much for your help!
*Lates - Remember Mr. Hogg is going to have draws for prizes for students who arrive on time. He is very concerned about the number of students who come late. Maybe set your alarm or clock 5 minutes ahead.
*Spelling - Spelling Test on Friday, January 7.
*Weather - Remember to dress for the weather!
Once again, thanks for the Christmas presents and goodies.
Thanks for writing in your child's agenda and for phoning if you have any questions or concerns.
We are off to a great week! Enjoy your "Crew!"
